About the volunteering opportunity
Through the ArrivalAid hearing and litigation support program, specially trained volunteers prepare asylum seekers for their hearing at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) or, if necessary, for a hearing in an administrative court. Prior experience in the legal field is not required. An introductory training session specifically prepares new volunteers for their duties.
Your Tasks
As a legal support worker, you help asylum seekers prepare for key dates in the asylum process. You explain how the hearing will proceed, talk with them about their story of flight, and simulate the hearing before the Federal Office or the hearing before the administrative court. This is not legal counseling; rather, it is about providing information and support.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You should bring time and motivation (from 4 hours per month for approx. 1 year) for an commitment. Prerequisite is the participation in an introductory training course.
