About the volunteering opportunity

Since 2015, we have been providing 30 people with an accommodation and a hot meal in our year-round emergency shelter. The aim is not only to save those affected from freezing to death, but also to provide medium to long-term help with returning to regular care systems all year round. Our emergency overnight stay is open to everyone and without any special conditions.

We offer you a meaningful job in a small, friendly and motivated team and an insight into working with homeless people.

We look forward to meeting you!

Your Tasks

We are regularly looking for volunteers for our late-night and night services.

Tasks include, among others

  • Admission
  • Looking after the guests
  • Clothes closet
  • Enforcing house rules
  • low-threshold counseling and referral to further counseling services
Working hours

  • The late shift is from 05:30 pm - 11:30 pm, for which you will receive a volunteer allowance of €25
  • The night shift is from 11:30 pm - 08:30 am, for which you will receive a volunteer allowance of €30
  • You decide how often and on which days you work, but it would be good if you could support us at least twice a month
  • The shift schedule is always made one month in advance.

Good German language skills are required, foreign language skills would also be desirable (but not required), as we have many non-German speaking guests. These include above all: Polish, Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian and Bulgarian.

For reasons of parity, volunteers should be over 25 years old.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You should have the motivation to help poor and homeless people to receive decent basic care.

German language skills, basic PC skills and a certain affinity for online applications are also important.

Time required

Flexible days. You can decide for yourself when you want to work. The shift schedule is always made one month in advance. As working with homeless people can be a demanding job, we rely on long-term volunteers.

Important notice

Volunteers should be aware that some of our guests are drug addicts or have multiple mental illnesses. Experience in this area would therefore be an advantage.

Our volunteers never work alone, but always at least in pairs.
