About the volunteering opportunity

Would you like to help refugees learn German without having to travel long distances?
Then join our digital format "online reden"!

In our online offer, you will meet refugees who live in accommodation and would like to speak more German. You simply open up the digital space and you can start talking to each other. In this way, you help them to become more confident in speaking and understanding.

What can you expect?

  • You don't have to be a grammar expert, the focus is on the conversation.
  • You will talk about everyday topics such as:
what is your favorite food? What did you do today? What does your weekend look like?
  • Many refugees have hardly any opportunities to speak German in everyday life. By giving your time, you enable valuable encounters and practice.
Your advantage

You can take part from the comfort of your own home and get to know new people, cultures and life stories.
and you will be included in our pool of volunteers, which means, among other things, invitations to exchange meetings, free further training and awards.

Your Tasks

What do we expect from you?

  • Openness and curiosity for people from different countries who live in Munich under special circumstances
  • Flexibility: The project is currently being set up. It may happen at the beginning that no participants show up. We would like you to be prepared to deal with this in a relaxed manner
  • Extended certificate of good conduct: We will support you with the application and issue you with a document that you will receive free of charge.
When does "talk online" take place?

Every Tuesday from 6 to 7 pm

Our offer to you

You will be accompanied by our volunteer coordination team. You will be trained at the first meetings and a permanent contact person will be available to you at all times. You can also benefit from the other advantages we offer volunteers at Diakonie, which we will be happy to explain to you in an introductory meeting.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Lighthouse Welcome Center

The Lighthouse Welcome Center is a cooperation project between Diakonie München und Oberbayern and Lichterkette e.V.. It is a mobile service for refugees. The Lighthouse goes to shelters that have a need. It stays there for several months. Volunteers come to the Lighthouse, open it up and listen to the refugees. They talk, play games together and, depending on their needs, learn German, play sports, explore the neighborhood or do other things. The aim of this project is to provide refugees with needs-based support and enable them to interact with volunteers on an equal footing. The Lighthouse Welcome Center brings a piece of welcome culture to Munich.
