About the volunteering opportunity
For a refugee woman who is almost completely blind due to illness, we are looking for an empathetic female mentor who will accompany her in everyday life and support her on her way to greater independence. The woman lives in an Anker Dependance in Munich East.
As she is not yet able to find her way around Munich, she needs a reliable caregiver who spends time with her regularly, discovers the city together and gradually gives her confidence in everyday life.
The focus is on encounters at eye level, joint activities and the gentle "training" of practical everyday skills - so that she can move and organize herself more independently in the long term.
Your Tasks
- Proactively make contact and build a trusting relationship
- Organize weekly meetings (in the accommodation or outside)
- Pick her up from the accommodation if possible, as she is not yet able to find her way around on her own
Joint activities such as:
- Conversations & walks
- Discovering Munich
- Attending cultural events
- Participation in language cafés, cooking events or initiatives for refugees
Everyday life training:
- Finding and understanding addresses
- Finding MVV connections and managing them together
- Practicing orientation in public spaces
Occasional accompaniment to important appointments
