About the volunteering opportunity
In our diaconal apartment on the first floor of an apartment building, we look after up to nine senior citizens - many of whom live with dementia - in the afternoons from Monday to Friday. For three hours at a time, we take them out of their apartments into our communal rooms, spend time with coffee and cake and organize activating activities such as games, conversations and short bursts of exercise.
The drivers and carers are mainly volunteers. Our offer is less profit-oriented - it is about social participation, dignity and quality of life in old age.
The apartment has a terrace, which could be a valuable meeting place, especially in summer. Currently, however, the outdoor area is not suitable for senior citizens and is not always safe to use. Our aim is to design this area so that our guests can spend beautiful summer days outside, experience nature and enjoy socializing - safely and without the risk of tripping.

Your Tasks
The following work is planned to make our terrace a safe place to relax:
- Tidying up and preparing the entire patio area
- Removal of unevenness and tripping hazards
- Paving approx. 10-15m² of edge area with existing used stones
- Placement of gravel for stabilization
- Digging out individual shrubs if necessary
- Pruning of adjacent trees and vegetation
Previous experience in gardening or paving is helpful, but not a prerequisite. What is important is team spirit, motivation and the joy of creating something lasting together.
