About the volunteering opportunity
The international network of Doctors of the World consists of 17 civil society organizations united by a common vision: a world in which health is recognized as a fundamental right. We provide medical care and document human rights violations. We advocate for social change and fight for justice.
Soon after their arrival in Germany, we inform refugees in AnkER centers (= large initial reception centers for refugees) about the topics of healthcare and protection against violence as part of our EU project "reach.out plus". Residents are empowered to learn about and exercise their health rights and options for action.
One of the ways we do this is through group workshops, which we offer to women in their native language in a protected environment. To enable interested mothers with small children to take part, childcare is offered at the same time.
Your Tasks
We are now looking for a volunteer childcare worker for the workshops, initially until the end of the year. The time required is approx. 3 hours per week (plus travel time of up to 1.5 hours each way).
Your future areas of work
For the workshops and childcare, we will travel together to various AnkER centers located throughout Upper Bavaria. Childcare is provided in cooperation with a full-time employee of Doctors of the World e.V. and directly next to the workshop room, so that the children are close to their mothers and they can be called to their children if necessary. Departure is from our office at Landsberger Straße 428, so there is always a ride available.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Your profile
- Age: (at least) 18 years
- Driving license: not required
- Certificate of good conduct: extended certificate of good conduct required
- Ability to work in a team and identification with the goals of Doctors of the World e.V.
- High degree of empathy and sensitivity towards precarious life situations
