About the volunteering opportunity
The exhibition for the 30th anniversary of the Carnival of Cultures aims to examine the complications of self-staging and its instrumentalization, as well as to explore the significance of difference and cultural diversity for a post-migrant society. It recognizes both the radiance and the critical dimensions of this Berlin tradition.
The exhibition, conceived as an artistic and documentary anchor point, presents the diverse actors who have voluntarily participated in the Carnival of Cultures for decades and sheds light on the strategies and methods of different generations with reference to questions of (in)visibility in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Exhibition contains approx. 14 works of art, a vernissage & finissage, as well as artist talks.
During the 2 weeks there will be many different activities:

- General: contributing to a peaceful and welcoming, clean atmosphere
- Supporting and highlighting our donation box
- Distribution of information material
- Counting the number of visitors
- Assisting with set-up and dismantling: Transporting artworks (physically demanding work)
- Vernissage & finissage: serving drinks
- additional tasks during Artist Talks if necessary (will be communicated)
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.

As a participatory project, the Carnival of Cultures coordinates an energetic four-day street festival with many artists, actors and groups, as well as the street parade on Pfingst Sunday in the middle of Berlin-Kreuzberg (around Hallesches Tor underground station).
