About the volunteering opportunity
One of our residents already speaks very good German - and that is his springboard. Now he would like to go one step further: deepen his knowledge of German and math, become more confident and develop further.
We are therefore looking for a friendly person who enjoys sharing their knowledge - once a week, in a relaxed atmosphere and at their own pace.
If this one hour develops into something regular - a reliable encounter, week after week. That would be incredibly valuable for our resident.

Your Tasks
- PracticesGerman (e.g. grammar, writing, expressions - he already has a great basis!)
- Explainsmath (basics to advanced topics - as needed)
- works1:1 with him, at eye level
- Online (e.g. Zoom, WhatsApp) or in person at our accommodation or at a location that you agree.
No pedagogical training necessary - patience, openness and a desire to explain are all you need!

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

- Good knowledge of German (native speaker not necessary!)
- Reliability and interest in meeting regularly
- Patience, openness and enjoy explaining things

A few things that are important to us 💛
To ensure that we work well together, we kindly ask you to:
- Meet at eye level - our resident is an adult with their own history and many strengths. No teaching "from above", but real learning together.
- Respect confidentiality - what you learn about their personal situation remains between you.
- Be reliable - one fixed appointment per week is more valuable than many irregular meetings. If you have to cancel, please let us know in good time.
- No pressure, no pace - the goal is support and trust, not performance or grading.
- Professional closeness - warm and open, but with a healthy boundary. This protects you both.

As a social enterprise, we are active in three areas: advice & support, care & accommodation and encounters & support. Our actions are characterized by the motivation to accompany people on their way to a self-determined life. The aim of all our services and initiatives is to promote participation and independence.
On behalf of the state of Berlin, we operate several shared accommodation facilities for refugees as well as the Berlin Arrival Center. In addition to these accommodation facilities, we initiate social projects that focus on encounters and exchange.

At our various locations, we offer volunteers the opportunity to do meaningful work. Interested? Whether once a month for an hour, several times a month or regularly throughout the week... any sincere social commitment is very welcome at Tamaja.
