About the volunteering opportunity
Our childminder is looking forward to a creative addition who brings their own ideas and talents. Whether it's movement games, music projects, exploring nature or something completely different - we're looking for activities that really challenge and encourage children. No dull handicrafts, but real stimuli: with meaning, fun and a small learning effect.
Your Tasks
- Independent preparation and implementation of small activities (sports, music, creative projects)
- Active supervision of the children during childcare hours
- Close coordination with the childcare provider on site
Well conceivable:
- Occasional learning support / homework help for older children
- Contributing own talents and interests (e.g. an instrument, a sport, an art form)
- Helping to create a reliable, weekly routine for the children
No program has to be perfect - the main thing is that everyone enjoys it and the children feel comfortable!
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
Prerequisites (mandatory):
- Minimum age 18 years
- Extended certificate of good conduct (we will apply for it for you!)
- Reliability - the children look forward to seeing you every week
Skills (desirable):
- Experience or genuine interest in at least one area: sport, music, exercise, art, nature or similar.
- Ability to implement your own ideas in a structured way - not just participate, but help shape them
- Intercultural openness - the children come from different countries and cultures
- Pedagogical flair - no degree required, but enjoy encouraging and inspiring children
- Patience and humor - both help enormously 😄
Not necessary:
- Pedagogical training
- Experience in helping refugees
- Language skills in the children's languages of origin

When dealing with the children:
- Reliability above all else - a familiar, recurring person is particularly valuable for children in uncertain life situations. Please always cancel in good time
- Do not make promises that cannot be kept - this applies to activities just as much as to the relationship itself
- Respect boundaries - some children need time to build up trust. Don't push, just be there
When dealing with families:
- Stay neutral - no interference in family or personal matters
- Confidentiality - what is experienced in the accommodation stays there
- Respectful treatment of different educational ideas and cultural backgrounds
In the accommodation:
- Coordinate with the supervisor - she is the contact person on site, her guidance has priority
- Know and comply with the house rules of the accommodation
- Do not act as an individual - you are part of a small team

As a social enterprise, we are active in three areas: advice & support, care & accommodation and encounters & support. Our actions are characterized by the motivation to accompany people on their way to a self-determined life. The aim of all our services and initiatives is to promote participation and independence.
On behalf of the state of Berlin, we operate several shared accommodation facilities for refugees as well as the Berlin Arrival Center. In addition to these accommodation facilities, we initiate social projects that focus on encounters and exchange.
