About the volunteering opportunity
The AWO Kreisverband Berlin-Mitte e.V. and IB Berlin-Brandenburg gGmbH work together to help refugees in Berlin hotels to settle in - multilingual, on-site and confidential.
We are still looking for support for our locations in Charlottenburg (Pichelsberg, Kronprinzendamm) and are happy to welcome committed helpers!
Your Tasks
Volunteers mainly provide support in the language café (German level A1). There, they help refugees to use and consolidate their initial German language skills in everyday life.
Typical tasks are
- holding simple conversations (e.g. greetings, shopping, visiting the doctor)
- help with understanding and speaking
- guiding small exercises or games
- create an open, respectful atmosphere
The aim is to reduce inhibitions and make it easier to start speaking German at a low threshold.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.

The Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Workers' Welfare Association) is one of the six umbrella organizations of the non-statutory welfare sector in Germany.
