About the volunteering opportunity
Skateistan is an award-winning international non-profit organization that empowers children through skateboarding and creative education. To keep our global operations running smoothly, we are looking for a dedicated IT Backend Specialist to help fortify our digital infrastructure. By streamlining our technical systems, you ensure that more of our resources go directly to the skate schools and the children we serve.
Your Tasks
- Infrastructure Management: Facilitate a seamless domain management and oversee cloud environment stability.
- Systems Integration: Troubleshooting and refining payment webhooks to ensure consistent donation flows.
- CRM Optimization: Assisting with Salesforce CRM configurations and ensuring data flows correctly between our platforms.
- Security & Connectivity: Implementing verified connections between 3rd party services and AWS, while auditing overall data security protocols.
- General IT Consultancy: Serving as a "go-to" expert for high-level technical roadblocks and architectural decisions.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
- Advanced AWS Knowledge: Experience with Route 53, EC2/Lambda, and IAM roles.
- Backend Proficiency: Strong understanding of webhooks, IPN and API integrations, and server-side logic.
- CRM Experience: Familiarity with Salesforce (specifically integration aspects).
- Security Mindset: Knowledge of best practices for data protection and secure 3rd party handshakes.
- Self-Starter: Ability to take ownership of technical projects with minimal supervision.
Time required
Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.
We are looking for someone who can offer a 2-3 hours a week on a consistent basis, for an initial 6-month volunteer position. The candidate could volunteer longer-term if they have the interest and capacity to do so. While most work is asynchronous, we may occasionally need to sync during business hours (CET) for critical troubleshooting or deployments.
Important notice
You will be joining a passionate, international team dedicated to making a real-world impact. This is a chance to apply your high-level technical skills to a cause that changes lives on the ground. Whether you are a seasoned pro looking to give back or a rising architect wanting to build a world-class portfolio in the NPO sector, we’d love to hear from you!
Location
This project is location independent.
