About the volunteering opportunity

TransPiz Berlin is an outpatient hospice service for young adults aged 27 and over with life-shortening illnesses.

It closes a gap in care after the end of children's hospice work and offers long-term support close to everyday life.

The focus is on the individual needs of the young adults as well as supporting and relieving their families. Volunteers give time and attention and offer reliable support.

Your Tasks

Support is as individual as the people themselves.

Sometimes it's conversations or joint activities, reading aloud, simply being there or sharing silence - but also joy and laughter. You spend time, create space for encounters and help to enable a bit of normality and quality of life in everyday life.

You accompany them where their lives take place:
  • at home or in assisted living
  • in inpatient facilities
  • on excursions and leisure activities
  • or simply in everyday life

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
  • Empathy
  • Willingness for self-reflection
  • Reliability and commitment
  • Ability to perceive oneself and others
  • Openness to different realities of life
  • Care or previous experience is not required, but desirable

You will be trained for your work in a preparatory course (approx. 100 hours, educational leave possible). There you will deal intensively with life with a life-shortening illness as well as with the topics of dying, death and mourning.

Time required

It doesn't matter whether you only have a few hours a month or regular time: We will find a way to adapt your commitment to your needs.

Important notice

TransPiz Berlin accompanies young adults from the age of 27 who are growing out of children's hospice work and for whom there are hardly any comparable offers so far.

After the preparatory course, your practical assignment begins, i.e. your first time accompanying someone.

During your assignment you are not alone: We are available for you and offer regular supervision and opportunities for exchange.
