About the volunteering opportunity
lightup Germany e.V. is an award-winning non-profit organization based in Berlin dedicated to combating human trafficking, forced labor and sexual exploitation through prevention and education. By empowering young people with knowledge and skills, the organization aims to promote youth-led initiatives that address issues such as justice, equality and human rights. Through interactive workshops, educational toolkits, awareness-raising campaigns and creative content, lightup Germany e.V. promotes critical thinking and community-based action. Our work focuses on the prevention of human trafficking, human rights education, youth empowerment and active participation.
Your Tasks
You take responsibility for the financial integrity of the association. In the area of liquidity, you ensure that the association remains solvent at all times and maintain an overview of ongoing finances.
Together with the Executive Board, you will draw up the annual budget and independently monitor compliance with the budget. You develop proposals for financial decisions and bring these to the Board.
At the end of the year, you prepare the cash report for the general meeting, draw up the annual financial statements and coordinate the cooperation with the auditors.
As treasurer, you also share responsibility for the proper management of the association and ensure that all financial resources are used in accordance with the articles of association.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
What you bring with you
- Reliability, diligence and a sense of responsibility
- Willingness to coordinate regularly with the Executive Board
- Ideally experience in a non-profit organization
- Ideally experience/knowledge in the field of business administration/finance

As a youth organization, we shed light on the reality of human trafficking, labor and sexual exploitation in order to reduce demand and prevent young people from becoming victims of exploitation themselves through prevention work.
In doing so, we rely on the young generation: we believe that the attitude, voice and actions of young people are enormously important when it comes to ending abuses like human trafficking and exploitation. That's why we encourage and empower young people to become active for change and give them a platform to use their ideas, talents and skills to fight against exploitation and for freedom.
lightup raises awareness and informs through workshops and social media, engages in public and political debates, and empowers young people to start local teams, events, and creative projects.
As an organization, we have no religious or party political affiliation.
