About the volunteering opportunity
We give rivers a voice.
With the non-profit project Nala-ai, we are developing a digital early warning system for rivers in Lower Saxony together with angling associations, science and water management.
An exciting new phase begins in mid-2026: several angling associations are testing digital measuring stations in various bodies of water for the first time. The sensors measure how a river is doing in real time - e.g. oxygen, temperature and water level.
But we don't just want to collect data.
We want to show people what water protection can look like today: understandable, emotional and approachable.
That's why we are looking for creative support for the media coverage of this extraordinary environmental project.
You don't have to be a professional - what's more important is a passion for nature, storytelling and real impact.
Together we will document how rivers "learn to speak" - and how people start to listen to them.
Your Tasks
🎥 Video editing & storytelling
- editing short videos for Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube
- creating reels & short documentaries
- media support for setting up the measuring stations
📸 Photo & content
- selection of good images
- support small visuals or social posts
🌊 Storytelling
- telling stories about rivers, people and nature conservation
- prepare interviews or original sound bites
💻 Remote possible
You can do a lot flexibly and from any location. Raw material will be provided.

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
You don't have to be a professional.
Interest or initial experience in one or more areas is helpful:
- video editing (e.g. CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve)
- social media or storytelling
- photography or design
- communication, journalism or media
- interest in nature, climate or water protection

Period: June 2026 - February/March 2027
The time required is flexible and can be arranged individually.
Some tasks can be taken on selectively (e.g. video editing of individual contributions), others can be done on a longer-term basis. Much is possible remotely.
The phase from June to fall 2026 will be particularly exciting: This is when we will be supporting the construction and testing of several digital measuring stations together with fishing associations in Lower Saxony.
Smaller contributions are also very helpful - the most important thing is reliability and a desire for a meaningful project.

We are a small, dedicated team and are currently building something new. That's why we particularly welcome people who want to take on responsibility and help shape things.
Many tasks are flexible and remote. We are happy to receive support for individual on-site appointments in Lower Saxony - but this is not a must.
