About the volunteering opportunity

The German Diabetics Association (DDB) represents the interests of people with diabetes in Germany. As a strong self-help organization according to § 20 h SGB V, we represent the concerns of our members in politics, society and the healthcare system, offer information, opportunities for exchange and support those affected in everyday life.

We are looking for up to two committed individuals to deputize for the chair of our federal association, who will represent the DDB and manage the business of the non-profit association together with other members of the federal board in accordance with our statutes.

Your Tasks

Your tasks

Central tasks of the Deputy Chairperson:

  • Representation: You represent the DDB at its own events, vis-à-vis umbrella organizations (e.g. BAG SELBSTHILFE, Der Paritätische) as well as in politics, healthcare, industry and with cooperation partners as part of a 1:1 representation of the Federal Chair. As many appointments take place in Berlin, it is advisable to be close by or regularly willing to travel.
  • Representative management of the association's bodies: If required, you will take over the management of the Federal Executive Board, the Federal Delegates' Assembly and the Association Council, including invitations, content preparation, chairing meetings and ensuring that minutes are taken and follow-up work is carried out.
  • Formal board tasks: You sign contracts or authorize payments
    (always in accordance with the dual control principle).

Other tasks in the Executive Board team (division of labor and according to the business distribution plan):

The following tasks are performed jointly with the Federal Chair, the
Federal Treasurer, the Federal Youth Officer and the full-time assistant.

personal focus and can represent the Federal Chair in these tasks if necessary.

  • Strategy and positioning: Participation in the substantive orientation of the association, discussion and development of positions, advice to the Executive Board and higher-level association committees.
  • Public relations: Supporting and helping to shape press and association communication (including in our member magazine Diabetes-Anker) in coordination with external service providers.
  • Representation of committees and interests: If required, representation of the DDB in central
    Committees (e.g. Joint Federal Committee/G-BA, BAG SELBSTHILFE) and at external
    at external meetings, trade fairs and events.
  • Networking: Exchange with the chairmen of our state and regional associations as well as with relevant players from self-help, politics and industry.
  • Reporting: Collaboration on accountability and activity reports.
  • Professional assessment: Contributing legal or medical expertise to statements and assessments, provided that the relevant expertise is available.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
  • Ideally, you will have previous experience in association, committee or voluntary work.
  • Knowledge or professional experience, particularly in the social sector, healthcare or legal field, is welcome and can be brought in depending on your personal focus.
  • You enjoy taking on responsibility in a team and actively supporting the Federal Chair in your work and when deputizing.
  • You have strong communication skills, team spirit and enjoy jointly representing interests to the outside world.
  • The work of the Executive Board is mainly done digitally with Microsoft 365 (including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word); a confident use of these tools is therefore a prerequisite.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 3 hours per week.
The time required is easy to plan and can usually be easily reconciled with professional and private commitments. About 2-3 hours per week should be planned for the core tasks. In addition, participation in at least two weekend committee meetings per year is required.

Important notice

The positions mentioned will be filled in an election by the responsible committees.
The elections are scheduled for August 15, 2026 in Erfurt.
