About the volunteering opportunity
Welcome Buddy is back for another round—sign up now for July
Starting out in a new city often comes with many questions and challenges—from bureaucratic procedures to social orientation. At the same time, there’s often a lack of opportunities to connect with local residents. The “Welcome Buddy” program addresses this very issue by specifically bringing newcomers and engaged Frankfurt residents together.
Starting in July 2026 , the program—run by Grow Together Germany gUG in cooperation with the Office for Multicultural Affairs (AmkA)— will launch a new round at the Welcome and Information Center. The program centers on one-on-one tandems: A person who is new to Frankfurt (a “newcomer”) is paired with a volunteer from the city (a “Welcome Buddy”). Over the course of several months, the tandems support each other in everyday life and learn from one another.
Here’s what you’ll get out of it:
Here’s what you’ll get out of it:
-
Support with settling in & greater independence:
As a newcomer, you’ll receive support in your daily life—for example, with appointments, questions, or taking your first steps in the city. This will help you gain confidence and a sense of direction, and you’ll gradually become more independent when dealing with government agencies and institutions.
-
New connections & perspectives:
As a local, you’ll get to know people outside your own bubble, take on responsibility, and actively contribute to fostering an open and inclusive community.
-
Making a Difference Together:
You not only strengthen one another, but also contribute to social cohesion, the use of existing resources, and greater diversity in practice.
Everyone aged 18 and older is invited—whether you’re a recent immigrant, have been here for a while, or are a local.
Welcome Buddy is organized by Grow Together Germany gUG, a social-profit organization based in Frankfurt am Main that promotes social cohesion and intercultural exchange. In 2024, the organization was awarded the City of Frankfurt’s Diversity and Integration Prize for its commitment.
