About the volunteering opportunity
Who we are and what we aim to achieve:
The Plant Based Treaty works globally to ensure that cities and governments recognize the transition to plant-based food systems as a central component of climate protection. In fact, our food system generates more greenhouse gases than all global transportation by road, water, and air combined—yet the issue is usually overlooked in climate policy.
The Plant Based Treaty works globally to ensure that cities and governments recognize the transition to plant-based food systems as a central component of climate protection. In fact, our food system generates more greenhouse gases than all global transportation by road, water, and air combined—yet the issue is usually overlooked in climate policy.
We want to change that. Using clear facts on climate protection, biodiversity, health, and animal welfare, we demonstrate just how much of a difference we can make.
Your Tasks
Specifically, we collaborate with cities, universities, and campus dining halls, and advocate, for example, for:
- more plant-based, climate-friendly, and price-stable options in university dining halls and public cafeterias
- direct dialogue with local politicians and student councils (ASten/StuRas) on the ground
- Awareness campaigns on the connection between diet and climate
- climate-friendly advertising in public spaces (less meat advertising on city billboards)
- plant-based cooking classes at adult education centers and schools
How you can get involved!
The best part: You can get involved exactly where you feel comfortable! Everything is flexible (mostly online), and you decide for yourself how much time you want to contribute—whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 hours a week.
There’s something here for everyone:
- College activists: Reach out to local universities and student dining halls to bring climate-friendly food to campus
- Creative minds: Design social media content that inspires people
- Networkers: Establish initial contact with cities, municipalities, or local initiatives
- Organizational talents: Create structure, coordinate schedules, and support the team
- Doers: Organize events or engage directly with politicians
Whether you prefer working together as a team or organizing behind the scenes on your own—there’s the perfect role for you. The only requirement: a passion for making a difference through volunteer work.

Plant Based Treaty
The Plant Based Treaty is a global climate action alliance that aims to promote a shift toward a plant-based diet as a key lever in combating the global climate crisis. As a voluntary, bottom-up movement, the initiative focuses on education and local partnerships with cities, universities, and consumers rather than on legally binding agreements.
