About the volunteering opportunity

Are you between 18 and 35 years old and looking for some camaraderie, good conversation, and a relaxed evening? Then come to our Tafel Youth After-Work Shift
Whether you come alone or bring friends—let’s pitch in together, chat, listen to music, and have a good time. 🎶

Every day, we rescue food—and of course, we want to pass on as much of it as possible to people affected by poverty in Berlin and throw away as little as possible. That’s why we need your help!

You’ll start with a brief introduction, and then you can jump right into the tasks alongside many other volunteers.

Your Tasks

During our after-work shifts, you’ll work alongside other volunteers to sort surplus food in our warehouse. In a relaxed atmosphere, we’ll work together to make sure good food doesn’t end up in the trash.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • Maximum age: 35 years
You should be in reasonably good physical condition, have an interest in working with food, and have no qualms about handling goods that may no longer be edible. You should also be able to proactively approach other employees and ask them for advice once you have finished your task.

What to bring

We can provide you with the following health and safety materials:

  • Medical masks: surgical or FFP2 masks
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disposable gloves
  • Safety shoes with steel toes
  • Plastic vests, aprons, or green Berliner Tafel T-shirts to wear over your clothes for protection.
Please bring clothes that can get dirty and bring socks, as you’ll be provided with work shoes.

Meals will be provided during the assignment!
