About the volunteering opportunity
The BeoCoach project supports young people in Karlsruhe as they transition from school to the workforce. As part of a one-on-one partnership, volunteer coaches provide individualized support to one student at a time. The program is aimed at students in general education and vocational schools (starting in 7th grade) who lack professional, personal, and technical support when it comes to academic learning and career planning.
Your Tasks
Here are your responsibilities:
As a mentor, you’ll be assigned to a specific student. Your focus will be on supporting these young people in areas where they’re struggling on their own. The time commitment is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours per week. Possible topics for the meetings include:

- Career guidance: Working together to explore career paths and sharing job application tips.
- Academic support: Helping with exam preparation, organizing the school week, and optimizing study methods.
- Integration & Language: For young people who haven’t been living in Germany for very long, you serve as an important point of contact for the language acquisition process and everyday questions.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
- A passion for working with young people and an openness to different life paths.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to inspire motivation.
- Life or professional experience to provide guidance (no teaching degree required).
- Reliability for the weekly meetings.
- An extended criminal background check (free for volunteers; the project will assist with the application process).

We are responsible for child and youth work in Karlsruhe. We have children's and youth centres, after-school care, all-day school care, organize vacation care and help young people make the transition from school to work.
