About the volunteering opportunity
As part of the “State MENTORING Program” to help stabilize apprenticeship relationships
>> Preventing apprentices from dropping out
>> Preventing apprentices from dropping out
The goal of the “AZUBI MIT BUDDY” project is to pair trainees (volunteer mentees) with volunteer mentors (buddies) to provide support and encouragement. Working in tandem, they can provide individualized, supportive guidance tailored to each trainee’s specific situation.
In an initial meeting with the project coordination team at puk a malta gGmbH, motivation, time availability, and expectations regarding the mentor’s role are discussed to enable a realistic assessment for forming a well-matched, interest-based mentoring pair. The coordination office is always available to the mentoring pairs and provides a reliable support structure tailored to their needs.
To achieve the central goal of stabilization, interested mentors participate free of charge in a short online “Mentoring Training” course offered by k.o.s GmbH, which collaborates with the state-level MENTORING program. The training modules teach the necessary technical and methodological skills and conclude with a certificate of participation.

The training, conducted via the online tools Zoom and Moodle, as well as the Buddy Project’s group events (including casual get-togethers and joint outings), also facilitates networking and the exchange of experiences with other volunteer mentors.
Your Tasks
Mentoring as a manageable commitment without an educational mandate (not tutoring) combined with meaningful leisure activities (including reimbursement of costs and other forms of recognition) in one-on-one pairings is at the heart of the project, aiming to foster a motivating and stabilizing environment that provides a balance to the often stressful daily routine of vocational training.
The project is aimed at both new mentors and experienced volunteers, and supports their volunteer work through training and assistance.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
The matches between apprentices (mentees) and mentors are carefully tailored based on their interests, so that the apprentices have someone with professional experience to talk to outside of their work and personal lives.
We are very pleased that you are interested in participating in the mentoring project; see also https://www.puk-amalta.de/mentoring!
Time required
Project-based
Through a one-on-one mentoring relationship, we can address each individual’s specific situation. Availability and meeting times are arranged on a case-by-case basis. How often and where these meetings take place, as well as what steps are taken to provide support with professional and practical life issues, are decided jointly on a case-by-case basis. Through mentoring, potential problems in the day-to-day training routine are identified, and solutions are found together to reduce stress and prevent trainees from dropping out.
Location
This project is location independent.
