About the volunteering opportunity
The Depri-Helden Young Heroes are guided self-help groups for children and adolescents dealing with mental health challenges. These groups meet every two weeks under the guidance of two adults each time.
Your Tasks
The group leaders are really only supposed to ensure that the meetings run as they should and that the discussion stays on track. Occasionally, one-on-one conversations are necessary, but the leaders are prepared for this.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Instructors must be at least 18 years old and must provide an extended criminal background check.
Time required
Regularly
Approx. 5 hours per month.
On weekdays, at night
The meetings take place every 14 days and generally last 2 hours. In addition, 30 minutes are needed for preparation and follow-up.
Important notice
We prioritize the safety of our instructors. No decision has to be made alone. Working in pairs, regular team meetings, and the option for supervision round out these safety measures.

Depri-Helden is a self-help organization dedicated to supporting people with depression and similar mental health conditions, as well as their families. In May 2026, the organization reached the 200-member milestone. We are currently active in four municipalities across two different counties. We also participate in public events to combat stigma and advocate for a society that is open to mental health issues. In addition to traditional self-help programs for adults, we also organize guided groups for children and adolescents, thereby doing important work in the area of suicide prevention.
