About the volunteering opportunity
Many older adults or people with limited mobility would like someone to accompany them on walks so they can participate more safely and independently in daily life.
We’re looking for dedicated walking companions who are willing to take the time to accompany our residents on walks. Spending time together in the fresh air provides an opportunity for pleasant conversations, social interaction, and enjoyable shared experiences.
This companionship helps people gain more confidence in walking and makes it easier for them to manage everyday trips, such as going shopping or to the doctor, once again.
Your Tasks
- Accompany older adults or people with limited mobility on walks.
- Take time for conversations and shared activities in the fresh air.
- Help the people you’re accompanying develop greater confidence and a sense of security while walking.
- Depending on need and as agreed, accompany them on short daily trips.
- Be mindful of the individual’s pace and needs.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
- Enjoy working with older adults.
- Patience, empathy, and reliability.
- Interest in conversation and going for walks together.
- Consideration for people with limited mobility.
- Willingness to adjust the walking pace and duration of the walk to individual needs.

The schedule is flexible and can be arranged individually with the volunteers. The frequency and duration of the walks are agreed upon together and depend on the volunteers’ availability as well as the needs of the people they are accompanying.
Important notice
Please be mindful of the physical abilities and individual pace of the person you are accompanying. The walks should take place in a pleasant, safe, and relaxed atmosphere.
It is important to treat the person you are accompanying with respect, to be patient, and to be willing to respond to their wishes and needs.
