About the volunteering opportunity
We are the social organization “Sehbehindert – aber Richtig” (Visually Impaired—But Just Right) from Munich. At our organization, visually impaired and blind social educators provide guidance and support to young people with visual impairments.
On Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, 2026, a pop-up “dark café” will take place at the Mohr Villa in Munich-Freimann. Two blind hosts with years of experience will serve coffee and cake there in complete darkness. This allows sighted guests to experience, if only for a moment, what everyday life is like without sight, while blind people demonstrate their skills.
Every hour on the hour (1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 p.m.), a group of up to 16 guests enters the “Dark Café” for 45 minutes. During the 15-minute intervals in between, the tables are cleared and everything is prepared so that the guides can serve the next group independently. The guides handle the serving and collecting payments themselves.
