About the volunteering opportunity
Learning Together Between Berlin and Malawi: We are looking for educators to help us establish a partnership between a Berlin school and our project in Malawi.
YOOW e.V. – Young and Old for One World is a Berlin-based nonprofit where young and older people volunteer together. Since 2018, we have been working with the Chiuno NGO in Chiuno Village, Malawi, to build the Chiuno Cultural Center, which includes a kindergarten, elementary school, and vocational training workshops.
Now we’d like to involve a Berlin school in this partnership, ideally on a long-term basis. The exact nature of the partnership hasn’t been finalized yet. We’ll develop the content and concepts together, and the Chiuno NGO will contribute its ideas from the very beginning.
To this end, we’re looking for educators interested in intercultural work who would like to help shape a project from the very beginning. You decide how much time you’d like to contribute. During the planning phase, we look forward to regular communication.

Your Tasks
We'll work together to figure out what you can do with us. Here are a few ideas:
- Develop concepts for collaboration between a Berlin school and the Chiuno Cultural Center
- Develop lesson plans, for example on Malawi, intercultural cooperation, or our joint project with the Chiuno NGO
- Plan and conduct classroom visits
- Help shape and support the exchange between the Chiuno NGO and the participating school
- Contribute to our regular meetings during the planning phase
Feel free to bring your own ideas to the table. Our motto is: Anything goes. Nothing is mandatory!
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
An educational background—such as a degree in education or a relevant college degree—is ideal. However, this is not a requirement: If you have a different background but experience in this field, you are just as welcome. What matters to us is your interest in intercultural work and in collaborating with others to shape a project.

You can be flexible about how much time you commit. During the planning phase, regular communication is important so that we can further develop the ideas together with the Chiuno NGO. We’re looking for someone who can commit to this on a long-term basis and help manage the partnership even after the planning phase is over.
