About the volunteering opportunity
In the winter months from November to April, the Berlin City Mission opens a total of 3 emergency overnight shelters. Many people who would otherwise have to spend the night outside in the cold are given shelter, food, clothing, medical care, counselling and spiritual support.
Volunteers with regular assignments and particularly responsible activities receive an expense allowance of 7.50 euros per hour.

Your Tasks
Activity: Your assignment will take place in the evening or at night. We are still looking for support, especially for the night shift. The range of tasks is varied. For example: You will greet our guests warmly and establish contact. You will help in the clothing and luggage office. You will assist in serving and preparing meals and in the scullery. Or you organise the evening together with the guests by talking to them or playing games.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Prerequisite: generally of full age. You must speak sufficient German for this volunteer position. If you have any pre-existing health conditions, we recommend that you consult with the facility management in order to protect yourself. Volunteering is not possible in the event of pregnancy.
Before your first assignment, you will attend an introductory seminar with all important information and procedures. Afterwards, you will be accompanied during your first shifts and will be trained.

What we are looking for: You are open to the life situations of homeless people. You have an overview and enjoy working in a team. You are reliable and like to take responsibility. The most important thing: You have an open ear for our guests!

Time commitment: average at least 1x per week
When:
- Evening shifts: 18:00- 22:00, 18:15 - 23:15, 19:30 - 23:30, 19:30 - 00:30
- Night shift: 00:00 - 08:30
