About the volunteering opportunity

There are many children and young people living in Hamburg who have had to flee their homeland without their families and are housed here in youth welfare facilities. Many of these young people would like to have a private confidant at their side to help them realize their plans and prospects and support them in integrating into their new, unfamiliar environment. To make this possible, the "Sponsorships for unaccompanied refugees up to the age of 21" project run by the Kinderschutzbund Hamburg has been providing unaccompanied refugees with volunteer mentors since 2015.

Your Tasks

Meet - accompany - inspire:
In terms of content and time, the sponsorship can be individually tailored to the needs and possibilities of the young person and the volunteer(s): doing something fun together in their free time, learning German or providing support with practical life matters - these are just some of the ways in which the sponsorship can be structured. In addition to providing support in everyday life and leisure activities, the mentors support the young people by offering a constant relationship.

 what is it all about?
- Trust, reliability and a relationship
- doing things together/organizing leisure activities
- Support with learning German/school support if necessary

*Sponsorship is not legally binding and does not mean that the young person becomes part of your household.
