Many minors live in Hamburg, who had to flee their homeland without a family. For a successful integration a private person of trust at their side, who supports them in realizing their future plans and in arriving in our society, is very helpful.
For its project "Mentorships for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees", the Hamburg Child Protection Association is constantly looking for new volunteers who are willing to meet with the young person on average once a week and support him or her in everyday life. In most cases, the young person lives in a youth living group spread throughout the city. The minimum duration for a sponsorship is 6 months, but mentorships usually go beyond this period.
The child protection agency trains and accompanies the mentors professionally and pedagogically. For questions, exchange of experience or tips on how to organise a mentorship, we are available to provide support.
Mentorhips are meaningful, varied and broaden the horizon! The mentorship is closely linked to the needs of the young person. The young person usually wishes to have a confidant with whom he can learn German, get to know German culture, get to know Hamburg and go on excursions.
Previous experience or pedagogical qualifications are not required. We conduct a joint meeting and selection interview with all interested volunteers and assume that they are willing to participate in the preparatory training. A flawless, extended police clearance certificate is required for the activity as a mentor. You will receive further information in the interview.
The "Deutsche Kinderschutzbund" is the lobby for children and campaigns for the rights of all children and young people to grow up without violence. In addition to the full-time staff, around 450 volunteers are involved in various institutions and projects in the Hamburg state association. We provide our volunteers with professional and educational support and look forward to welcoming new interested parties!More about the organisation
