About the volunteering opportunity
For our project "Ankerlicht - Educational Mentoring for Refugee Children and Adolescents" we are looking for volunteer mentors to accompany their mentees on their educational path.
Pupils with a newcomer background often face great challenges in their everyday school life: in addition to the technical aspects, they have to learn a new language, find their way around the Hamburg school system, develop ideas for the future, master a school leaving certificate and so on... as a mentor, you accompany a mentee between 13 and 20 years of age on her/his educational path and provide professional support, life experience and motivation:

During the mentoring year we support you with team meetings, supervision and further training - depending on the needs and requirements of the mentoring.
Your Tasks
You meet with your mentee
- for 1 year
- 90 minutes per week
- in 1:1 mentoring
- on the premises of our partner schools
and help her/him to improve at school - e.g. in certain subjects, with regard to her/his German language skills or in preparing for exams; you may also help with applications and with the transition from school to vocational training - in short, with all the topics that could arise during the mentee's year
What's needed
Volunteers must be native German speakers.
Coming of age and motivated - these are the main criteria! We have students, young and experienced professionals, as well as seniors among our anchor light mentors.
Anyone who enjoys intercultural encounters, is reliable, can and likes to meet the needs of mentees is welcome!
Time required
Important notice
According to the measles protection law in effect since March 1st, 2020, people who work in community settings (which our mentors fulfill - they meet with their mentees at their school) and were born after January 1st, 1971 must have a measles vaccination.
In our association and with our cooperation partners (schools), we and our volunteers adhere to all currently valid hygiene rules (distance, hand hygiene, mask, ventilation, testing if necessary).
Where?
SchlauFox e.V.
SchlauFox e.V. supports socio-economically disadvantaged children and young people on their way to education. Our volunteers supervise them in various projects in which they help the pupils to graduate from school, to gain knowledge about healthy cooking and, if they have escaped here, to find their way into the German school life.
