About the volunteering opportunity

In June 2020, we launched Squirrel News (squirrel-news.net), a curated news service for solution-oriented news (in German and English). At the heart of the project is a mobile (hybrid) app for iOS and Android (open source, Ionic framework, Tailwind, Angular/React Native).

A first version of the app is in the stores and is mostly finished. However, we still have many ideas on how to improve and develop the app.

Our IT team currently consists of only one person, Oliver, who doesn't have as much time as he would like due to his full-time job - and also feels like taking the next steps in the team. That's why we are now looking for developers to support us in the further development of our app!

Your Tasks

You can help decide which tasks you take over and which further developments make sense. This includes features like optional scrolling (so far only swiping is possible), personalizable push notifications, a new team page with slider and photos, a search and tag function and if interested also further developments in the backend area (currently between Google Drive and Firebase database).

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.

You should have some experience with frontend or even mobile app development.
