About the volunteering opportunity
Contact restrictions during the pandemic have shut down our German courses and our language café. We still want to maintain contact with refugees. We also do not want the language level once achieved to be lost. For this, regular exchange in German is necessary.
Your Tasks
You should have the time and desire to talk to refugees on the phone once or several times a week, to exchange ideas - if possible also via Zoom or similar platforms. German lessons in the actual sense are not required, rather regular language contact. It can be useful to correct pronunciation and consolidate listening comprehension. But the focus should be on chatting. This then leads to topics in which both sides are interested.
We "match" people we know, who have professional experience, who already have a good language level, i.e. who are not beginners.
What's needed
You should be interested in a continuous exchange. The prerequisite would be the willingness to speak slowly, to put up with repetitions and to have a regular exchange. What is important is not the frequency per week but the reliability. If you only have time once a week, that's okay. But you should be able to rely on this one appointment.

In case of difficulties or questions of any kind, you should contact us, the "worldwide" team. We discuss questions openly and in a solution-oriented way. In our opinion, voluntary work should be fun and enjoyable. It should not be a burden. If you realise that you are not interested in this kind of commitment, or that you cannot make it in time, you should let us know quickly. It is not a problem to stop. But we should be informed about it.
