Project "Türöffner" - intercultural visiting services for elderly people
About the volunteering opportunity
Our colleagues of the Caritas Conferences of Germany (CKD Berlin) are looking for committed people with a migration or refugee background throughout Berlin for the project "Türöffner", who would like to visit older people at home in Berlin on a voluntary basis.
The goals of the intercultural visiting services are primarily to enable regular contacts at eye level as well as opportunities for joint conversations in German. Those who want to be visited and those who want to visit are brought together in a personal matching process. "Türöffner" aims to create the framework for people who might be a good match to get to know each other. In addition, the volunteers are continuously professionally and individually accompanied and trained in, among other things, proximity / distance in volunteering, dealing with everyday racism and dealing with older people.
The content of the visiting services is based on the individual needs and interests of those involved.
Wanted is about 1 visit a week for about 2 hours.
Regular exchange rounds take place about every 6-8 weeks.
- You regularly visit a senior citizen of Berlin (1 time a week)
- The tandem pair decides together on the content of the visit (walking, talking, if necessary accompaniment, reading aloud, etc.)
- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to communicate at eye level
- very good, fluent German
The youngcaritas Berlin belongs to the Caritasverband für das Erzbistum Berlin e.V. and promotes young people's commitment. Our goal is to introduce young people to politically and socially "explosive" topics and to teach them a more attentive and conscious use of environmental resources, both through theoretical input and through practical implementation. The goal of youngcaritas Berlin is to win as many young people as possible for voluntary work, be it for the youngcaritas projects "Kulturbuddys", *vergissmeinnicht* or through counselling and placement in various institutions and projects.More about the organisation
