The contact restrictions during the Covid 19 pandemic pose great challenges for many students and new residents. Especially the socially disadvantaged are at risk of losing touch. Even after the end of the Covid 19 pandemic, there will be a great need to catch up.
With Virtual Volunteers, who contribute learning and conversation hours via online formats (or, if possible, in person), more equal opportunities can be achieved in an uncomplicated way. The Virtual Volunteers are accompanied by professional contact persons in the AWO|FFM Volunteer Agency and have access to an online DAZ-DAF consultation hour.
SCHOOL@HOME cooperates with the ABZ (Reception and Counselling Centre) of the State Education Authority Frankfurt am Main and several refugee shelters and was awarded the Digital Association Champion 2020 and the 9th Town & Country Foundation Prize.
A Virtual Volunteer at SCHOOL@HOME usually commits 1-2 hours a week and is placed by the volunteer agency according to his or her strengths and skills. Where personal 1-to-1 support is currently not possible due to Covid-19, homework support and conversation take place via video conferencing, for example via WhatsApp, Skype and Zoom. This enables all participants to see each other despite distance, to exchange texts and to communicate in writing at the same time.
Enjoyment of working with children and young people, intercultural sensitivity, enjoyment of learning together and the technical ability to use online formats.
The hygiene concept of our organisation is handed out at the beginning of the engagement and must be observed. Depending on incidence and vaccination status, masks may be mandatory.
