Many young people who grow up in educationally disadvantaged families only know theatres and museums from the outside. We want to start changing that and create new perspectives. The goal of the mentoring program is to bring young people (between 14 and 19) closer to the cultural diversity of our city and thereby open up opportunities that would otherwise be denied to them.
We arrange 1-to-1 mentorships that provide personal support and an introduction to Hamburg's cultural life. Together with a mentor, the young people attend various events of their choice: from theater, to exhibitions, to concerts, poetry slams, and much more.
Over a period of about 6 months, the students visit 4 to 5 cultural events with their mentors and can discuss the events they attended with their mentors and discover new interests.
Experiencing and getting to know culture as well as the exchange with the mentors and other young people are in the foreground of our project.
We are looking for culturally enthusiastic people who are open-minded and tolerant towards young people and who would like to attend cultural events together with a young person.
In addition to the mentorships, the project also offers group events, such as joint tours or visits, for all mentees and mentors at regular intervals.
The organisation HAMBURGER*MIT HERZ e.V. has been arranging 1-to-1 mentorships with refugees since 2016. This is how we try to make a sustainable contribution to integration.More about the organisation
