About the volunteering opportunity

We are an independent, non-profit association and provider of free youth welfare services. All families who wish to do so receive a child welcome visit (KiWi) from our volunteers after the birth of a child on behalf of the City of Cologne. More than 11,000 of these visits are made each year. As the number of births in Cologne is still high, we are looking for further support for this great task of welcoming newborns.

Your Tasks

You visit young families on a voluntary basis and give them an initial guide to the best addresses for families with small children in their area. You provide information about early help such as toddler groups, baby swimming, counseling services or childcare. These are handed out to parents as a compact reference guide in a folder, together with gifts from the KiWi partners who have supported the project for many years.

What we are looking for:
  • Volunteers who visit families at home and offer an informative consultation lasting around 30 minutes
  • open-minded, outgoing and curious people who get in touch with people quickly and easily
  • People who are willing to volunteer for a longer period of time (at least one year)
Our services
  • Guidance from specialists (professional support and advice from the local coordinator)
  • Exchange of experiences (regular exchange meetings to reflect on the visits and pass on information)
  • Reimbursement of costs incurred (expense allowance of 5 euros per appointment)
  • Further training/qualification opportunities (comprehensive training in preparation for KiWi volunteering)
  • Liability insurance
  • regular information
  • Proof of activity
  • Accident insurance
  • Integration into the staff of our association (summer party, Christmas party, staff meeting,...)
Training for new interested parties takes place twice a year (spring and fall). Interested parties can always get in touch and then actively start their assignment after attending the next training course offered.
