Support us in the emergency overnight stay (with expense allowance) in Lehrter Str.

In the winter months from November to April, the Berlin City Mission opens a total of 3 emergency overnight stays. Many people who would otherwise have to spend the night outside in the cold are given shelter, something to eat, clothing, medical care, counselling and spiritual support here.

Volunteers with regular assignments and particularly responsible activities receive an expense allowance of 7.50 euros per hour.

Activity: Your assignment will take place in the evening or at night. The field of activity is varied, ranging from admission control, baggage acceptance, recording data in the PC program, support in de-escalation in case of conflict, enforcement of house rules, relationship and contact building with the homeless guests, to assistance in serving and preparing meals, in the scullery, the clothes closet, in the medical area and in the dormitories.

Requirements: For this honorary position, you will be qualified by us in several seminars. Participation is thereby obligatory. The minimum age is 18 years. Fluent German language skills are mandatory. In the case of pre-existing health conditions, we recommend consulting your doctor and the facility management to protect yourself; unfortunately, volunteering is not possible in the case of pregnancy.

So this honorary position will bring you joy: You are open to life situations of homeless people. You keep the overview and act gladly in the team. You are reliable and like to take responsibility. The most important thing: You have an open ear for our guests! It is important to us that we meet each guest at eye level. We are especially happy about volunteers who are close to the Christian faith or are Christians themselves. However, this attitude is not expected.

Time commitment: on average at least 1x per week, including the Christmas season
When: 06:00 pm - 12:00 am or 07:30 pm - 12:00 am or 11:30 pm - 08:00 am
