About the volunteering opportunity

At the beginning of 2022 we started "Jona's Nachhilfeprojekt" in our facility Jona's Haus. In our facility we support kids and teens who sometimes have a hard time - especially in school. And especially with and after "Corona". Within the framework of the tutoring project, we would like to accompany these kids and teens and address specific gaps in knowledge and skills that can no longer be made up for at school. Therefore, we are also in contact with the teachers. It is important to us to accompany the kids and teens over a longer period of time and to "really" make a difference!

Your Tasks

In "Jona's tutoring project" you become educational heroes: You take over tutoring for one (or even more) children or a teen (of course the matching has to fit!) and support the respective young person - e.g. once a week - in catching up on curriculum contents.

What's needed

Volunteers must be native German speakers.

A big heart :) - and the joy of helping a young person so that it "works" again in school. And don't worry: no one is forced to tutor math. We match you in such a way that it fits well with the age level and with the subjects.

Time required

We would like to accompany kids & teens in the long term so that the knowledge and competence gaps that arose during the Corona pandemic can be closed. That's why we are looking for committed volunteers who want to build a relationship with "their" child/teen and also accompany them over a longer period of time - be it analog or digital

Where?

This project is location independent.

Stiftung Jona - Jona's Haus

Every child and young person is welcome at "Jona's Haus ". Origin, skin color and religion play no role. Every individual is valuable and loved by God. Every child, every young person has potential and talents, everyone has skills and abilities that just need to be discovered. We provide advice, support, mediation and encouragement - for questions of daily life as well as for groundbreaking decisions. On the basis of our Christian faith, we at Jona's Haus want to give children and young people a sense of security, affection and recognition as well as compensate for educational deficits - a task to which we are wholeheartedly committed.

"J ona's Haus" was opened in 2006 by Prof. Dr. Bier and her late husband. The spacious facility has a children's room, a youth room, a theater room, a music room, a climbing wall, a football pitch, a traffic practice track and various other play and sports facilities. In order to reach children and young people in the morning as well, various educational projects in the areas of language development, media skills and vocational training have been added. As an external learning location for over ten different elementary school in Spandau, Jona's Haus offers various topics for an excursion (e.g. social skills, English, upcycling, festivals, seasons, etc.). Jona's Haus is open 365 days a year. Every day there is a hot lunch, a workshop and a children's devotional with games and stories about God and the world. Excursions and special vacation programs take place regularly. All activities at Jona's Haus are free of charge.
