About the volunteering opportunity
The International Federation (IB) with its registered association, its companies and holdings is one of the major service providers in youth, social and educational work in Germany.
In Berlin Marienfelde, the company IB Berlin-Brandenburg gGmbH operates a transitional home for refugees. Currently, about 700 people live here, half of them are under 18 years.
For our newly arrived residents:inside, who are not yet familiar with Berlin, we are looking for support.
For many of our new arriving residents it is still difficult to find their way around Berlin. Especially longer distances, where public transport has to be used, become an obstacle.
In order to still be able to attend various appointments and to learn to find their way around by themselves, they need your support.
Your Tasks
You will pick up people at the dormitory and accompany them on their way to various appointments (authorities, doctors, etc.) and help them find their way.
What's needed
Since people are only a very short time in Germany, they often speak no / only little German.
Therefore, a good knowledge of English is helpful and ideally you also speak Persian or Russian, but this is not a must!
Time required
You should be free for two to four hours on at least one weekday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Important notice
You are insured with us as part of your commitment. You will be accompanied and supported by a full-time volunteer coordinator.
