Shaping integration together: Become a companion for refugees!

With our project Yadan Biad (=Hand in Hand in Arabic) we of the German Red Cross KV Schöneberg-Wilmersdorf e.V. want to win people from the neighborhood to accompany refugees on their different ways into our society.

Our goal is to shape integration together and, through accompaniment, to help refugees reach their destination more quickly, stay motivated and not feel alone.
We bring people together who fit together as well as possible and share common interests or goals. 
Even now, in light of the war in Ukraine voluntary commitment is more necessary than ever!

Your Tasks

Companions support, for example. by:

Joint playground visits (if you have both children) - Orientation in the city - Dealing with authorities - Building a social network - Sports and leisure - Support in finding housing - Homework help - Learning German - Joint excursions - Exploring the neighborhood - Cooking together - Language tandems

During the accompaniment care our professional team you individually and is you in case of difficulties and questions always to the side. Through regular newsletters, you'll learn about news and free training opportunities for volunteers, or you'll be invited to our regulars' table meetings (about 3-4 times a year) to exchange with other volunteers.

What's needed

Welcome are all with us, who have desire to engage in their neighborhood for diversity, regardless of origin, gender, age, faith, sexual orientation or disability.
You can alone, or as a couple or family take over a companion. It is important that at least one adult person is always present.
Because it is about the accompaniment of refugees, we are specifically looking for people who speak good German (C1 level or above). Since we in the district of Schöneberg work exclusively with accommodations for refugee women and children, we are looking there especially women (gladly with children), who have a desire to take over an accompaniment for a refugee woman.

Time required

The commitment is individual, but about 2-3 hours per week should be planned (of course excluding illness / vacation, emergencies, etc.)

As we are currently at the former airport Tegel strongly involved in the organization of the arrival center for Ukrainian refugees, it may be that you have to wait longer than usual (1-2 weeks) for a response. We hope for your understanding!

We bring people together who fit together as well as possible and share common interests or goals. We work closely with two shelters in Schöneberg for refugee women and their children and provide close and professional support for both refugees and volunteers.

We are currently looking for women who would like to support young refugee women on their way to a new life. From park mornings with children, excursions, support with formalities to cooking together, everything can be included. We are looking forward to meeting you!
