About the volunteering opportunity
The collection tours to the supermarkets start always in the morning at 8:00 am from the Berlin wholesale market in Moabit into the whole city area, in order to save sorted out food of supermarkets and other donors.
The tours form the basis of the table work, since here the food is collected, which is distributed afterwards directly over the distribution points to needy Berliners further or passed on to social facilities.
Your Tasks
The drivers form a team with the co-drivers and help to pick up food from the donors. On site at the supermarkets, you load the donations into the car together and then set off for the next stop. The tour ends after a successful pickup back at the Berlin wholesale market, where the car is unloaded and cleaned, if necessary.
What's needed
The safe driving of a large shift vehicle in Berlin traffic is an important basis for this job, because the tours are mainly driven with Mercedes Sprinters. You should have basic physical fitness, an interest in handling food and no reservations about coming into contact with a wide variety of people and also with goods that are sometimes no longer edible.
Time required
A deployment is usually 4 to 6 hours long.
We are very happy about helpers who decide for a fixed tour and thus a regular weekly deployment, but also an irregular deployment is a great help to us. You determine the frequency and regularity of the assignment yourself.
