About the volunteering opportunity
In the mentoring project of our volunteering office MARIE, people from Berlin who want to support other people find each other. We are looking for committed people who accompany refugees or other groups of people with support needs and make it easier for them to arrive in a new environment. Personal contact at eye level helps people to get to know each other better and to learn from each other. Prejudices can thus be reduced and replaced by shared experiences.
We offer you: individual support and advice, a regular training program, joint recreational events, access to free offers of cultural events, issuance of certificates of commitment, if necessary (BVG) travel reimbursement.
Your Tasks
We are currently looking for several people who want to support school children (boys and girls, 3rd-6th grade) in learning through homework help and through reading (with and for them) as well as writing exercises. It is mainly about deepening the German language, but also support in other subjects is welcome.
The tutoring can take place in our meeting place AWO "Mühlentreff", at a weekly date, which can be determined together.
In general, the homework help takes place in 1:1 supervision. But if you want to support a small group of several school children together, this is also feasible.
What's needed
Motivation and patience, empathy, openness, commitment and reliability, reflective ability
Time required
A weekly appointment of about 1.5 hours is planned for the tutoring. The date can be set together.
