About the volunteering opportunity
You want to make a difference and help others feel like they belong?
Be a SPEAK buddy and share your language and culture with newcomers or locals in your city. Anyone can be a buddy - no experience necessary! The only thing you need is the passion and motivation to connect with new people from other countries and cultures. It really is as easy as it sounds.
Your Tasks
What is a language group?
Language groups take place online or offline in 12 90-minute sessions. As a buddy, you have the flexibility to choose your pre-set weekly dates, time (we know there are morning people and night owls), and decide if you want to hold online or face-to-face sessions.
How does it work?
- Sign up as a buddy
- Complete the online self-training
- Assign yourself to a language group or contact us to lead an offline group

What's needed
Everyone can be a buddy - no experience necessary! If you speak a language, you can also speak it in our language groups. The language groups have different levels (Basic & Conversational), depending on your level you can decide which level you want to lead.
The buddy experience requires your commitment for 4/6 weeks, depending on the frequency of your language group. The SPEAK experience is free and open to everyone. It is very important for us to have engaged buddies who are ready to make a difference and make a difference locally or globally.
Time required
At SPEAK, we bring together newcomers and locals living in the same city through community-led language groups and cultural exchange events. In the process, participants learn from each other, discover common interests and make new friends, breaking down barriers and combating prejudice in their cities.
Location
This project is location independent.
SPEAK
Along the program participants and buddies meet offline and get to know each other, they became more aware of the “other” and their culture, share their story and in this way they break prejudice, barriers, estigmas and make new friendships.
