About the volunteering opportunity

What is the project about?

The voluntary commitment of our mentors is an important part of the program "The Competence Workshop: Self-determined professional participation". The project is designed to support people with newcomer background aged 18-27 in developing their personalities and strengthening their skills. The focus is on developing self-determined visions and long-term professional participation. The young people are accompanied through a three-month modular training program and a long-term mentoring program.

What does the mentoring involve?

As a mentor, you must be willing and interested in accompanying a young person at the beginning of his or her professional career in Germany for a period of two and a half months. This includes counseling and support in career or education planning for the mentee as well as regular meetings. We support you in this process and offer mentoring training.

Your Tasks

As a mentor, you will accompany a young person to counseling centers, you will look for jobs or apprenticeships together, create a resume or motivation letter, practice job interviews, and discuss together how your mentee can achieve his or her professional goals.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

We are looking for people with and without migration biographies who want to make an active contribution to the professional participation of young new immigrants through their commitment. Therefore, your professional experience, a successful career in the education market and a network in Berlin are particularly valuable.

This is what we offer:

  • Accident and liability insurance coverage
  • Application for an extended certificate of good conduct
  • Mentoring training and individual support
  • Exchange of experience
  • Commitment certificate

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.

The official engagement runs for approx. 2 months, but the mentoring can continue beyond that if desired by both parties. A weekly meeting (virtual/in persona) for approx. 90 minutes is planned.

Here you can find the short film about the competence workshop and theĀ official website of the project.
