About the volunteering opportunity

With "Via. Rethinking grief." - a nationwide offer - the Malteser go new ways
we want to bring mourning to life, we want to inform mourners and people from the social environment about mourning; we want to encourage people to deal with mourning, we want to create spaces for memories and, if necessary, support them with online counseling.

Grief counseling online? Is that possible? And who needs such an offer anyway?
Since 2021, Malteser International has been offering online grief counseling with trained grief counselors on a voluntary basis. The number of requests for advice from people who are grieving has increased rapidly. Many people who are confronted with grief make use of Malteser's grief counseling service.

The concerns of those writing are highly diverse. But the counselors respond to all initial inquiries within 48 hours.

Malteser has been involved in hospice and grief work for a long time, e.g. with the outpatient adult, children's and youth hospice services, and has now expanded its offering with digital grief work.

Your Tasks

For this new and innovative project, Malteser Germany is still looking for more volunteer grief counselors or those who want to become one. As a volunteer you support people in their mourning process in an online counseling portal. An honorary office, which can be exercised from everywhere, because the consultation takes place on-line.

We offer:

  • Introduction to online counseling

  • Supervision and practical support of volunteers by a full-time coordinator

  • Regular further training and supervision

  • A competent, committed and supportive team

  • Flexible work schedule
