Our tandem teams connect women with and without refugee and migration background.

As tandem partners you enrich each other, support learning German, can get to know each other in a relaxed setting and have fun together at our various recreational events (eg cooking meetings, trips, workshops and many more).

In a preparation workshop you will be prepared for your role and then have the opportunity to get to know your tandem partner in a relaxed way. We will support you in your tandem at any time with any concerns, questions or plans!

Your Tasks

• In your tandem you meet according to your individual wishes: whether flexibly in our cozy office, only at our cooking meetings, or more often privately, is up to you
  
  
• You support your partner in learning German through your conversations
  
  
• You attend our various recreational events (e.g. cooking meetings, excursions, workshops and many more) together and according to your interests
  
  
• You help your partner with bureaucratic matters (such as understanding letters)
  
  

What's needed

We are only looking for female volunteers for mentoring.

Time required

In your tandem you meet according to your individual wishes, therefore your volunteering is flexible in time according to your ideas.

A tandem round should last about 6 months. An extension is possible at any time.

Über den Tellerrand kochen München e.V. ("cooking outside the box") promotes the personal exchange between people of different cultural backgrounds. In cooking events both get to know each other on eye level which actively shapes a sustainable and successful integration process. How exactly does this work? We organize events in which 20-30 participants with and without refugee experience cook and eat together. Usually we cook traditional dishes from the home countries of the refugee participants, who can share something about their culture. The events are organized by volunteers of our community and financed by donations and funding from the city of Munich. By involving both refugees and locals in the organization of the events, we motivate both sides to jointly shape the integration process. This promotes intercultural competences and enables social and cultural participation for refugees.
