About the volunteering opportunity
You want to work for a society that excludes no one? In which everyone has their place, regardless of origin, gender and religion? You want to show that we can live well together in a diverse society? We want that too! That's why we bring people with and without an immigration background together in tandems. Getting to know each other on an equal footing is particularly important to us.
This means: common interests are in the foreground. So it's not about an auxiliary relationship, but simply about having a good time together. In the best case, a new friendship.
In the next step, our volunteer mediators conduct an introductory conversation with you and then find a tandem for you. You will be accompanied by us in your tandem for six months. We look forward to getting to know you.

Your Tasks
Start with a Friend pairs immigrants and locals into tandems based on their interests and needs. Ideally, this leads to a friendship; in any case, it creates a social network that makes it easier for immigrants to get started in Germany. Start with a Friend supports and advises the pairs after they’ve been matched and organizes events to help the pairs connect with one another. It’s also important to us to create structures that allow people with busy work and family lives to get involved. The schedule is therefore flexible, and training opportunities are available but optional. So far, Start with a Friend is active in 26 cities across Germany.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
The specific activities will be arranged individually between you and your tandem partner! Start with a Friend wants to create exciting encounters and experiences everyone can profit from. We therefore meet with every participant personally and bring them together with others according to their interests, professional backgrounds, and needs.
