About the volunteering opportunity

Laughing and reading together, giving a child undivided attention, accompanying them and strengthening their self-esteem - for the non-profit organization KinderHelden we are looking for volunteer mentors who want to support Frankfurt primary school children with difficult starting conditions on their way to secondary school.

Your Tasks

You support your mentee in language skills, reading and arithmetic or homework, but also in the very practical everyday education. In addition to school support, the program also includes meaningful leisure activities.

For getting to know each other and building trust, the first four meetings are planned at school, after which the meetings can also take place outside of school in public spaces or virtually on the KinderHelden Campus, our digital learning platform.

The 1:1 meetings are supplemented by group activities, such as museum or zoo visits together with other KinderHelden tandems. In addition, regular mentor*in regular meetings are held for our volunteers.

Through the campus, our volunteers have access to workshops and webinars in order to be able to support the children in the best possible and most targeted way.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

You don't need to have any previous educational experience, because you will be prepared for your new role in a preparatory workshop. In addition, you will receive individually tailored learning materials and tips for child-friendly activities. During the entire year, you will receive pedagogical support and training from full-time employees who will be available to you as contact persons during your commitment.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.
On weekdays, on weekends, during the day

It is ideal if you have about 1x per week in an afternoon about 2 hours to meet with a child and to promote it individually and strengthen.

Before the start of the commitment, we get to know you in a personal interview (duration about 45 minutes) via video call. This is followed by the introductory workshop for our volunteers. This takes place as a webinar.
