About the volunteering opportunity
Would you like to work for a society that doesn't exclude anyone? Would you like to bring people into contact with each other and get involved in promoting more togetherness and participation? Do you enjoy meeting new people and exchanging ideas? Then you've come to the right place!
Start with a Friend brings people with and without immigration experience together. It is particularly important to us that we create equal encounters so that friendships can develop.

- Share your hobby with other people and organize small events?
- Make SwaF even better known in your city?
If you answer "yes" to one or all of the questions, then come and join us! 😊
Of course, you're not doing all this alone. There is a volunteer team at each location that works together with a lot of joy, fun and SwaF spirit. We are always happy to welcome new faces. The topics of migration, diversity and anti-discrimination are very important to us. That's why we offer many different workshops in addition to our team work. You are welcome to take part. You don't need any previous knowledge.

For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
Empathy for people with a history of immigration and/or flight, team spirit, openness and creativity. We are open and receptive to many ideas. And a lot of fun :)

We would like to offer an event once or twice a month, for which we need the help of volunteers with creative ideas and organization.

Start with a Friend pairs immigrants and locals into tandems based on their interests and needs. Ideally, this leads to a friendship; in any case, it creates a social network that makes it easier for immigrants to get started in Germany. Start with a Friend supports and advises the pairs after they’ve been matched and organizes events to help the pairs connect with one another. It’s also important to us to create structures that allow people with busy professional and family lives to get involved. The schedule is therefore flexible, and training opportunities are available but optional. So far, Start with a Friend is active in 26 cities across Germany.Â
