About the volunteering opportunity
Dear interested people,
In Berlin, the number of homeless men and women is increasing. The changing social situation hits them particularly hard and they need, especially in winter, our support.
Our emergency shelter ensures that 32 homeless men and women get a warm place to sleep, a warm dinner and breakfast.
A nice conversation and a smile can become very important in everyday life on the street.
Our guests come from many different countries and just as diverse is our team. Everyone is welcome here.
Support us in this important task!
Your Tasks
We cook together for our guests. We also have a washing machine where they can have their clothes washed. At the evening entrance we make a bag check. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed in the accommodation.
We have a clothing store from which the guests can get new clothes.
One of the tasks is also to serve the food to the guests and then put the dishes in the dishwasher.
In the morning the same is done with breakfast.
If necessary, new bed linen is given out.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
There are no special requirements, except an interest in helping homeless people.
Knowledge of Polish, Russian, Bulgarian or Romanian would be desirable, but is not a prerequisite.
Time required
Our emergency shelter for homeless women and men will open daily at 7 p.m. from 1. October 2023 to 30. April 2024. However, the volunteers come already at 6 p.m. to prepare dinner. At 11 p.m. it is nighttime, which means that also volunteers can go to sleep in their own rooms. At 6 a.m. we serve Breakfast and at 8 a.m. we close the shelter. For such a night shift, you receive 90 euros net.
Important notice
In our accommodation animals are allowed in limited numbers.
