About the volunteering opportunity

Many refugee women and men from African countries - such as Nigeria, Congo, Sierra Leone, Tanzania - have had difficult experiences during their flight and even beforehand in their home country. You support a person in building trust in themselves, their new life and the people in Germany. You explain how things work in Germany, perhaps accompany them to the authorities or simply listen and be there. Some are doing an apprenticeship, others are still waiting for recognition. Together we will see who is best suited to you or who you are best suited to. The accommodation is centrally located in Munich and is easy to reach by subway.

Your Tasks

Walks, talking, listening, sports, sightseeing, drinking coffee/tea, visiting exhibitions, simply leisure activities that you both enjoy

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

Empathy, ability to listen, patience, tolerance, curiosity about unknown world views. Language German or English or French.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.
On weekdays, on weekends, during the day

The duration and frequency can be determined individually between the volunteer and the Mentee after an initial meeting. In order to build trust, 1-2 hours per week is the minimum.

Where?

Diakonie München und Oberbayern - Innere Mission München e.V.

"Die Innere Mission" helps people with a migration background. Whether as first aid for refugees and asylum seekers or through useful offers for migrants already living in Munich with permanent residence. The employees of our social and migration services often know the challenges from their own experience. They know where to start in order to begin a new life in a foreign country.
