About the volunteering opportunity

Equal social opportunities and digital participation through the teaching of digital skills and career orientation - that is the goal of the TechTeens digitalisation initiative for socially disadvantaged young people at Leipzig's secondary schools. Since 2018, the social project has been implemented by committed volunteer and corporative mentors with a lot of heart and soul in order to develop exciting digital solutions together with pupils of the 8th-10th grade and to close the digital gap a little.

The social participatory project is accompanied by professional training, coaching and a series of events and offers its mentors, in their role as encouragers, motivators and inspirers, a meaningful commitment with a further training function and networking opportunities.

Your Tasks

In interdisciplinary, mixed mentoring teams, practical lessons are organised once a week at TechTeens - together with the students, professionals from all professional fields (mentors) develop digital/technical solutions from the idea, personnel planning, conception, implementation, design, marketing and presentation.

For this purpose, the expertise of the mentors is bundled in order to inspire young people for a variety of professions. In addition to the professional orientation of young people in grades 8-10, TechTeens wants to teach IT/professional skills that help to reduce the digital divide for the aforementioned target group and pave their way into a digital professional world.

The mentors are live on site at the school together with a TechTeens tutor as part of the TechTeens full-day offer and/or connect remotely to the classroom. The mentors of a partner school work together within a mentoring team, which is divided into teaching support.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

As a TechTeens mentor, you combine the joy of working with young people, an interest in the working world of the future and motivate with your talent. With your personal and professional experience, you are an important role model for our teens at the schools and support them in recognizing and developing their strengths. Through your long-term, continuous and thus sustainable commitment, you help the students to grow as people.
